Why is CAD Automation required ?

CAD Automation is used mainly for four reasons:

  • To remove human errors from the process and technical data.
  • To speed up the process and increase productivity.
  • To minimize the number of software licences so that one licence and one person can do the job.
  • To use the CAD program and your computer at its highest efficiency

What industry type needs CAD Automation ?

Industries that make large products containing hundreds of components. Often, such products are modified to suit individual clients’ needs. Generally, companies want to make design changes in less time and with greater accuracy. Industries manufacturing cabins, site vans, caravans, motorhomes, and bus or truck bodies prefer to customise their CAD operations.

How does the CAD Automation work ?

To make a process automatic in a CAD program, we write a script using a compatible programming language that calls the desired functions as needed. This script will appear as a button in the CAD program interface. The user will need to click on it to begin the process. We can automate one or a series of processes depending on the user input.

What is CAD automation?

CAD automation is the way to operate CAD software. For example, to mirror a geometry, we turn on the mirror tool from the toolbar, select the geometry to mirror, press Enter or Esc and click at two locations: point 1 and point 2 (about which we want to mirror the shape), press Enter or Esc to finish the command. Using CAD Automation, we click on the macro button, select the geometry, and press Enter or Esc to complete the command, and it mirrors the geometry, horizontally or vertically. So four clicks and two keys are replaced by two clicks and one key.

What type of CAD program can be automated?

CAD software featuring application programming interface (API) can be automated. Such software can be programmed internally using Visual Studio for Application or externally by linking it to a coding software.

Do you provide CAD program?

No. We are not resellers of software. You will need to own a suitable CAD program licence for us to work on it.

What are the basic requirments of CAD Automation?

  1. Software with API documentation.
There are many CAD tools available with the API documentation.

    • SOLIDWORKS API Help
    • AutoCAD Automation API
    • Autodesk Fusion API
  2. 3D Assembly construction method.
There are various modelling approaches for large 3D assemblies. The following are popular in automation.

    • Top-Down Assembly modelling
    • Bottom-up Assembly modelling
    • Combination of Top-Down and Bottom-up modelling
  3. Construction consistency in the desired 3D models.
Consistency ensures that all parts fit together as intended, maintaining the strength and stability of the overall assembly. Inconsistent modelling can lead to misaligned parts, weak joints, or interference between components
